Artists Insi­de e.V. awards fel­low­ships to ten pro­mi­sing Ber­lin-based artists.

The Artists Insi­de Fel­low­ship Pro­gram­me is adver­ti­sed on the Artists Insi­de e.V. web­site and social media profiles.

Cur­r­ent­ly, app­li­ca­ti­ons must be sub­mit­ted exclu­si­ve­ly via the Artists Insi­de e.V. web­site from 1 May 2024 to 15 May 2024 and must inclu­de a CV, a state­ment with a detail­ed descrip­ti­on of artis­tic prac­ti­ce, images of four selec­ted works, and an optio­nal web­site and/​or Insta­gram link, if available.

It is impe­ra­ti­ve that app­li­ca­ti­ons are only sub­mit­ted with works and state­ments that are the sole crea­ti­ons of the artists and for which the artists hold the rights of use. Any attempt at fraud will result in immedia­te and per­ma­nent exclu­si­on from this or any future Artists Insi­de Fel­low­ship programme. 

Par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in the Fel­low­ship Pro­gram­me is vol­un­ta­ry. Howe­ver, you should only app­ly if you are sure that you have the time and space to par­ti­ci­pa­te in the men­to­ring pro­gram­me and group exhibition.

GUI­DE­LI­NES

1. Artists Insi­de Fellowship

Artists Insi­de Fel­low­ship is an inde­pen­dent pro­gram­me for the non-mate­ri­al and finan­cial sup­port of con­tem­pora­ry art from Ber­lin Artists Insi­de Fel­low­ship is open to all Ber­lin artists up to the age of 35. The pri­ze is awar­ded regard­less of eth­nic ori­gin, pla­xe of ori­gin, affi­lia­ti­on, gen­der, disa­bi­li­ty, reli­gi­on or ideo­lo­gy, or sexu­al iden­ti­ty. In accordance with its phi­lo­so­phy, the Asso­cia­ti­on aims to sup­port the selec­ted artists in an inclu­sio­na­ry way.

The Artists Insi­de Fel­low­ship sup­ports the fel­lows wit­hin the scope of its pos­si­bi­li­ties with a grant, a men­to­ring pro­gram­me, a group exhi­bi­ti­on of the fel­lows and an alum­ni programme.

The bud­get, the amount and dis­bur­se­ment of which is deter­mi­ned by the Exe­cu­ti­ve Board and depends on the finan­cial resour­ces of the organization.

The men­to­ring pro­gram­me takes place bet­ween June and Novem­ber and inclu­des mee­tings and trai­nings with experts. Par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in the men­to­ring pro­gram­mes is vol­un­ta­ry. Howe­ver, an app­li­ca­ti­on for the pro­gram­me should only be made if it is cer­tain that par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in the men­to­ring pro­gram­me is pos­si­ble in terms of time and location.

The­re will also be a group exhi­bi­ti­on of the fel­low­ship hol­ders, which will be orga­nis­ed by Artists Insi­de e.V. in col­la­bo­ra­ti­on with the fel­low­ship hol­ders and cura­ted and desi­gned by them. The pro­ceeds from the sale of the exhi­bi­ted art­works will be dis­tri­bu­t­ed in full to the artists. Par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in the group exhi­bi­ti­on is vol­un­ta­ry. Howe­ver, an app­li­ca­ti­on for the pro­gram­me should only be made if it is cer­tain that par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in the group exhi­bi­ti­on is pos­si­ble in terms of time and location.

The alum­ni pro­gram­me is inten­ded to crea­te a sus­tainab­le net­work that pro­mo­tes exchan­ge and con­ta­ct bet­ween for­mer and cur­rent fel­low­ship hol­ders. The alum­ni pro­gram­me is also vol­un­ta­ry, but par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in the group exhi­bi­ti­on is pos­si­ble in terms of time and location.

2. app­li­ca­ti­on regulations

App­li­ca­ti­ons for the fel­low­ship pro­gram­me can only be sub­mit­ted to www​.artists​-insi​de​.com wit­hin the time spe­ci­fied on the web­site (app­li­ca­ti­on peri­od). All app­li­ca­ti­ons sub­mit­ted out­side the spe­ci­fied app­li­ca­ti­on peri­od will be rejec­ted. For orga­ni­sa­tio­nal rea­sons, app­li­ca­ti­ons can­not be sent by post; sub­mis­si­ons can the­re­fo­re neit­her be con­si­de­red nor retur­ned. In order to give as many Ber­lin artists as pos­si­ble access to the fel­low­ship pro­gram­me, the lan­guage of the selec­tion pro­ce­du­re and the fel­low­ship pro­gram­me is English.

The board of Artists Insi­de e.V. will check whe­ther the for­mal requi­re­ments for the app­li­ca­ti­on (con­di­ti­ons of par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on) have been met. . The decisi­on of the board on com­pli­an­ce with the con­di­ti­ons of par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on is final and will not be substantiated.

The con­di­ti­ons of par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in detail:

  1. Artists who are bet­ween 18 and 35 years old at the time of app­li­ca­ti­on and who live and work in Ber­lin are eli­gi­ble to apply.
  2. Ent­rants must com­ple­te all sec­tions of the form and sub­mit a CV, a state­ment (no more than 2,000 cha­rac­ters inclu­ding spaces) with a detail­ed descrip­ti­on of their artis­tic prac­ti­ce, a short state­ment (no more than 180 cha­rac­ters inclu­ding spaces) based on your state­ment, that we can use to pre­sent the fel­low stu­dent on insta­gram, and images (photographs/​videos) of four of their works, strict­ly adhe­ring to the size para­me­ters spe­ci­fied in the form and in English. 
  3. The artwork(s) must be the par­ti­ci­pa­ting artists’ own and sole work(s) (sin­gle aut­hor­s­hip). The artists gua­ran­tee that they are enti­t­led to all rights with regard to the sub­mit­ted artwork(s) and that they do not assu­me any con­trac­tu­al or other obli­ga­ti­ons that would pre­vent their par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in the fel­low­ship pro­gram­me or the group exhibition.
  4. Par­ti­ci­pa­ting artists may only sub­mit their app­li­ca­ti­on once during the app­li­ca­ti­on peri­od. After the app­li­ca­ti­on dead­line, app­li­ca­ti­ons can no lon­ger be amen­ded or sup­ple­men­ted. The app­li­ca­ti­on can be with­drawn at any time by noti­fy­ing the Exe­cu­ti­ve Board (inside@​artists-​inside.​com).
  5. The par­ti­ci­pa­ting artists agree to take part in the men­to­ring pro­gram­me and the group exhi­bi­ti­on if the jury’s decisi­on is in their favour.
  6. The par­ti­ci­pa­ting artists agree to trans­fer to Artists Insi­de e.V. free of char­ge all rights to use the image of their artwork(s) for the pur­po­se of publi­ca­ti­on and communication.
  7. The par­ti­ci­pa­ting artists may be asked at any time to pro­vi­de pro­of of the authen­ti­ci­ty of the infor­ma­ti­on pro­vi­ded wit­hin a rea­son­ab­le peri­od of time. If the evi­dence is not pro­vi­ded, Artists Insi­de e.V. reser­ves the right to exclu­de the par­ti­ci­pa­ting artists from the app­li­ca­ti­on process.
  8. In con­nec­tion with the selec­tion pro­cess, influ­en­cing the jury is just as imper­mis­si­ble as buy­ing fol­lo­wers, likes, comments and ret­weets on the social media plat­form Insta­gram. This also app­lies if the influ­ence is inten­ded to favour the selec­tion of third par­ties rather than your own.
  9. The Exe­cu­ti­ve Board will exclu­de par­ti­ci­pants from the selec­tion pro­cess even after admis­si­on if it beco­mes known that the con­di­ti­ons of par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on have not been met. In this case, the fel­low­ship can also be can­cel­led retroac­tively. The­re is no legal enti­t­le­ment to par­ti­ci­pa­te in the selec­tion pro­ce­du­re and fel­low­ship programme.

3. selec­tion procedure

3.1. The selec­tion of the ten fel­low­ship hol­ders is deci­ded by the expert jury (voting weight 90%) and the voting of the pre­vious years’ fel­low­ship hol­ders (voting weight 10%). 

3.2. The expert jury con­sists of nine experts from the field of con­tem­pora­ry art and is appoin­ted by the board. The Exe­cu­ti­ve Board may also appoint fel­low­ship hol­ders from pre­vious selec­tion pro­ce­du­res (alum­ni) as jury members.

3.3. The jury mem­bers will not judge the ent­ries accord­ing to the inst­ruc­tions of third par­ties, but only accord­ing to their own jud­ge­ment based on the works sub­mit­ted and the state­ments. The selec­tion of the ten fel­lows shall be inclu­si­ve and regard­less of eth­nic ori­gin, place of ori­gin, affi­lia­ti­on, gen­der, disa­bi­li­ty, reli­gi­on or ideo­lo­gy or sexu­al identity. 

3.4. The decisi­ons of the expert jury are final. The rea­sons for the decisi­ons will not be disclosed.

3.5. Artists Insi­de e.V. reser­ves the right to cla­ri­fy the selec­tion pro­ce­du­re at any time and to intro­du­ce chan­ges, wher­eby any updates to the selec­tion pro­ce­du­re or the gui­de­li­nes will be indi­ca­ted on the Artists Insi­de e.V. website.

4.Group exhi­bi­ti­on

The par­ti­ci­pa­ting artists agree to assu­me all respon­si­bi­li­ty and cost risk in con­nec­tion with the pro­duc­tion of the art­works for the group exhibition. 

The­re shall be no enti­t­le­ment to the orga­ni­sa­ti­on and sta­ging of the group exhi­bi­ti­on. Should the group exhi­bi­ti­on not be pos­si­ble for orga­ni­sa­tio­nal or other rea­sons, claims for reim­bur­se­ment or dama­ges against the asso­cia­ti­on are excluded. 

The asso­cia­ti­on will try to orga­ni­se the trans­port of the art­works for the orga­ni­sa­ti­on of the group exhi­bi­ti­on as best as pos­si­ble, pro­vi­ded the objects are loca­ted in Ber­lin. The­re is no enti­t­le­ment to com­pen­sa­ti­on for trans­port costs. 

The asso­cia­ti­on will take out event insuran­ce for the peri­od of the events (ver­nis­sa­ge, finis­sa­ge) in con­sul­ta­ti­on with the artists. 

5. copy­right, data protection

5.1. The par­ti­ci­pant has gran­ted Artists Insi­de e.V. the right to repro­du­ce the artwork(s) pro­vi­ded for the pur­po­se of crea­ting a cata­lo­gue, archi­ving the images of the art­works pro­vi­ded and publi­shing them on the web­site, social media and for the pur­po­se of other infor­ma­ti­on pre­sen­ta­ti­on deter­mi­ned by the orga­nisers as well as for the pur­po­se of demons­tra­ting the artwork(s) in the group exhibition.

5.2. Par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in the fel­low­ship pro­gram­me requi­res that, in addi­ti­on to agre­eing to the con­di­ti­ons of par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on, con­sent is also given to the pro­ces­sing of pho­tos and film record­ings. Con­sent to the pro­ces­sing of pho­tos and film record­ings is requi­red becau­se the fel­low­ship pro­gram­me is of a public natu­re and is at least par­ti­al­ly car­ri­ed out in public. Fel­low­ship hol­ders will be pro­vi­ded with a form for this pur­po­se once they have been selec­ted.
