Artists Inside e.V. awards fellowships to ten promising Berlin-based artists.
The Artists Inside Fellowship Programme is advertised on the Artists Inside e.V. website and social media profiles.
Currently, applications must be submitted exclusively via the Artists Inside e.V. website from 1 May 2024 to 15 May 2024 and must include a CV, a statement with a detailed description of artistic practice, images of four selected works, and an optional website and/or Instagram link, if available.
It is imperative that applications are only submitted with works and statements that are the sole creations of the artists and for which the artists hold the rights of use. Any attempt at fraud will result in immediate and permanent exclusion from this or any future Artists Inside Fellowship programme.
Participation in the Fellowship Programme is voluntary. However, you should only apply if you are sure that you have the time and space to participate in the mentoring programme and group exhibition.

GUIDELINES
1. Artists Inside Fellowship
Artists Inside Fellowship is an independent programme for the non-material and financial support of contemporary art from Berlin Artists Inside Fellowship is open to all Berlin artists up to the age of 35. The prize is awarded regardless of ethnic origin, plaxe of origin, affiliation, gender, disability, religion or ideology, or sexual identity. In accordance with its philosophy, the Association aims to support the selected artists in an inclusionary way.
The Artists Inside Fellowship supports the fellows within the scope of its possibilities with a grant, a mentoring programme, a group exhibition of the fellows and an alumni programme.
The budget, the amount and disbursement of which is determined by the Executive Board and depends on the financial resources of the organization.
The mentoring programme takes place between June and November and includes meetings and trainings with experts. Participation in the mentoring programmes is voluntary. However, an application for the programme should only be made if it is certain that participation in the mentoring programme is possible in terms of time and location.
There will also be a group exhibition of the fellowship holders, which will be organised by Artists Inside e.V. in collaboration with the fellowship holders and curated and designed by them. The proceeds from the sale of the exhibited artworks will be distributed in full to the artists. Participation in the group exhibition is voluntary. However, an application for the programme should only be made if it is certain that participation in the group exhibition is possible in terms of time and location.
The alumni programme is intended to create a sustainable network that promotes exchange and contact between former and current fellowship holders. The alumni programme is also voluntary, but participation in the group exhibition is possible in terms of time and location.
2. application regulations
Applications for the fellowship programme can only be submitted to www.artists-inside.com within the time specified on the website (application period). All applications submitted outside the specified application period will be rejected. For organisational reasons, applications cannot be sent by post; submissions can therefore neither be considered nor returned. In order to give as many Berlin artists as possible access to the fellowship programme, the language of the selection procedure and the fellowship programme is English.
The board of Artists Inside e.V. will check whether the formal requirements for the application (conditions of participation) have been met. . The decision of the board on compliance with the conditions of participation is final and will not be substantiated.
The conditions of participation in detail:
- Artists who are between 18 and 35 years old at the time of application and who live and work in Berlin are eligible to apply.
- Entrants must complete all sections of the form and submit a CV, a statement (no more than 2,000 characters including spaces) with a detailed description of their artistic practice, a short statement (no more than 180 characters including spaces) based on your statement, that we can use to present the fellow student on instagram, and images (photographs/videos) of four of their works, strictly adhering to the size parameters specified in the form and in English.
- The artwork(s) must be the participating artists’ own and sole work(s) (single authorship). The artists guarantee that they are entitled to all rights with regard to the submitted artwork(s) and that they do not assume any contractual or other obligations that would prevent their participation in the fellowship programme or the group exhibition.
- Participating artists may only submit their application once during the application period. After the application deadline, applications can no longer be amended or supplemented. The application can be withdrawn at any time by notifying the Executive Board (inside@artists-inside.com).
- The participating artists agree to take part in the mentoring programme and the group exhibition if the jury’s decision is in their favour.
- The participating artists agree to transfer to Artists Inside e.V. free of charge all rights to use the image of their artwork(s) for the purpose of publication and communication.
- The participating artists may be asked at any time to provide proof of the authenticity of the information provided within a reasonable period of time. If the evidence is not provided, Artists Inside e.V. reserves the right to exclude the participating artists from the application process.
- In connection with the selection process, influencing the jury is just as impermissible as buying followers, likes, comments and retweets on the social media platform Instagram. This also applies if the influence is intended to favour the selection of third parties rather than your own.
- The Executive Board will exclude participants from the selection process even after admission if it becomes known that the conditions of participation have not been met. In this case, the fellowship can also be cancelled retroactively. There is no legal entitlement to participate in the selection procedure and fellowship programme.
3. selection procedure
3.1. The selection of the ten fellowship holders is decided by the expert jury (voting weight 90%) and the voting of the previous years’ fellowship holders (voting weight 10%).
3.2. The expert jury consists of nine experts from the field of contemporary art and is appointed by the board. The Executive Board may also appoint fellowship holders from previous selection procedures (alumni) as jury members.
3.3. The jury members will not judge the entries according to the instructions of third parties, but only according to their own judgement based on the works submitted and the statements. The selection of the ten fellows shall be inclusive and regardless of ethnic origin, place of origin, affiliation, gender, disability, religion or ideology or sexual identity.
3.4. The decisions of the expert jury are final. The reasons for the decisions will not be disclosed.
3.5. Artists Inside e.V. reserves the right to clarify the selection procedure at any time and to introduce changes, whereby any updates to the selection procedure or the guidelines will be indicated on the Artists Inside e.V. website.
4.Group exhibition
The participating artists agree to assume all responsibility and cost risk in connection with the production of the artworks for the group exhibition.
There shall be no entitlement to the organisation and staging of the group exhibition. Should the group exhibition not be possible for organisational or other reasons, claims for reimbursement or damages against the association are excluded.
The association will try to organise the transport of the artworks for the organisation of the group exhibition as best as possible, provided the objects are located in Berlin. There is no entitlement to compensation for transport costs.
The association will take out event insurance for the period of the events (vernissage, finissage) in consultation with the artists.
5. copyright, data protection
5.1. The participant has granted Artists Inside e.V. the right to reproduce the artwork(s) provided for the purpose of creating a catalogue, archiving the images of the artworks provided and publishing them on the website, social media and for the purpose of other information presentation determined by the organisers as well as for the purpose of demonstrating the artwork(s) in the group exhibition.
5.2. Participation in the fellowship programme requires that, in addition to agreeing to the conditions of participation, consent is also given to the processing of photos and film recordings. Consent to the processing of photos and film recordings is required because the fellowship programme is of a public nature and is at least partially carried out in public.
